Writing Program Director, Saint Xavier University, August 2008-present

Lead the department's transition to a one-semester first-year writing course, which includes developing curricular guidelines, learning objectives, pedagogical approaches, placement and assessment procedures, and faculty development workshops to facilitate the transition. Oversee 15 adjunct faculty, which includes observing classes, mentoring adjunct faculty, scheduling teaching assignments, interviewing and hiring new adjunct faculty, and communicating program policies and procedures to adjunct faculty members.

Director of Communication Across the Curriculum, Illinois Institute of Technology, August 2007-June 2008

Collaborated with faculty to strengthen the communication curriculum in undergraduate courses to better prepare graduates for the oral and written communication challenges they will face in the workplace. Developed and delivered faculty workshops to help faculty design, teach, and assess effective writing and speaking assignments into their courses. Provided leadership to the IIT Writing Center tutors to help support students in their speaking and writing assignments. Designed and implemented a longitudinal assessment program to gauge the development of students' communication skills during their undergraduate careers.

Assistant Director of Composition for Program Development, Purdue University, May 2005-May 2007

Redesigned, developed, and maintained the program website using Drupal web technologies.Coordinated the Introductory Composition Program's Showcase of Student and Instructor Work, which included recruiting presenters, coordinating judging, designing and producing publicity, and managing the budget. Developed and conducted one-day orientation for new adjunct faculty, introducing them to the Department of English and program curriculum. Assisted the Director in planning and implementing New Instructor Orientation. Maintained program archive. Served as ex-officio member of the Introductory Writing Committee and its subcommittees.

Introductory Composition/Writing Lab Coordinator, Purdue University , August 2004-May 2005

Participated in New Teaching Assistant Orientation to introduce TAs to the Writing Lab and its services, resulting in an increase in both lab tours and in-class workshops for English 106 classes. Mentored Undergraduate Teaching Assistants in research that resulted in opening a pilot satellite tutoring center in a university residence hall in January 2005. Worked with English 106 instructors and Writing Lab tutors to collect sample papers for use in the lab's hiring and tutor training processes. Recruited graduate students to work as graduate tutors in the Writing Lab. Represented the Writing Lab's interests as a member of the Introductory Writing Committee.

Organized, scheduled, and managed weekly in-lab workshops. Coordinated tutors' special projects in the lab, such as extended consultation with a graduate student interested in developing her writing. Coordinated responses to questions sent to Purdue's online writing helpline, OWL Mail. Advanced Composition (English 304C, 1 section) Introduced advanced undergraduate students from a variety of majors to different issues related to composition studies, including rhetorical theory, literacy development, and theories of the writing process. Developed students' ability to write for an academic audience by assigning a variety of assignment common to academic writing such as a project proposal, annotated bibliography, and final research project.

Introductory Composition for Horizons Learning Community (English 106R, 1 section) Assisted first-generation, lower-income students make the transition to college by emphasizing issues of personal and academic literacy. Implemented extensive invention activities to prepare students to understand rhetorical situations and write to a variety of personal and professional audiences.

Introductory Composition for 1960s Learning Community (English 106R, 1 section) Utilized rhetorical theory to help students understand, analyze, and write about rhetorical strategies used by 1960s social activists. Developed an e-Book text for the course which served as a rhetoric and reader for the course. Emphasized invention, audience, visual rhetoric, and revision through weekly conferences and technology-based instruction with students.

Accelerated Introductory Composition (English 108, 2 sections) Engaged accelerated first-year students in discussions of classical rhetorical principles to demonstrate effective methods of negotiating ethos, pathos, and logos in personal and academic writing. Emphasized rhetorical grammar and style as a means of polishing already excellent written products. Assigned a variety of multi-media assignments that applied the aural, oral, and visual rhetorical strategies discussed in class.

Introductory Composition: Rhetorical Situations/Real Texts (English 106, 3 sections) Introduced first-year students to academic writing by emphasizing issues of rhetorical invention, consideration of audience, and effective research strategies while studying themes of self, society, work, and play. Encouraged students to select unique genres of writing that suited their audiences and rhetorical situations. Developed an e-Book text for the course which served as a rhetoric and reader for the course. Provided consistent feedback on students' drafts through weekly conferences with students. Emphasized revision, reflection, and document design by preparing students to complete a final portfolio of their work.

Academic Writing (English 102, 2 sections) Helped second-semester students understand the principles of academic writing by focusing on rhetorical strategies of argumentation, ethical and effective research techniques, and considerations of audience. Utilized classroom technology to help students develop online research skills, provide feedback to peers' writing, and develop arguments using visual rhetoric.

Introductory Composition (English 101, 1 section) Introduced first-semester students to principles of clear, effective writing using a cultural studies approach with an emphasis on media analysis. Prepared students to write for academic audiences by attending to issues of audience, style, and ethos.

Collaborated with undergraduate and graduate students to improve their writing projects and develop their skills through all stages of the writing process. Delivered in-lab workshops for students on topics such as MLA citation, commas, and the writing process. Responded to grammar and citation questions posed by students and members of the public who called the Writing Lab Grammar Hotline or sent an e-mail to the OWL Mail helpline.

Consulted with graduate and undergraduate students on all stages of writing projects that ranged from introductory composition assignments to graduate seminar papers.
